Co-star not important for Katrina Kaif

Actor Katrina Kaif has squashed reports that she has not signed Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor yet. Sources close to the actor confirm that she is doing the film and is excited about the project and her role in it. Recent reports had indicated that Kat had not signed the film as she was not sure about her co-star.

The film was earlier expected to star Sushant singh Rajput, but now has Aditya Roy Kapoor. Buzz had it that Katrina wanted to first watch Shuddh Desi Romance and decide whether she wanted to work with Sushant.

However, a source close to the actor says, "Katrina is definitely doing Fitoor. She is the kind of actor who takes up a film that interests her without involving herself in casting decisions. Kat was bowled over by the script and had agreed to do it irrespective of her co-star."

I’ll wrap up Paani this year: Shekhar Kapur

"I plead guilty for not focussing on Paani for two years. I got busy with another film and selling my tech and social media company. But I will wrap it up this year,” promises Shekhar Kapur. The filmmaker released a DVD of Irena Salina’s movie, Flow, on Wednesday. The informative and provocative documentary highlights many African villages that survive on potentially toxic water, out of sheer necessity. It holds corporate and government figures responsible for the crisis and shows how grass-root organisations work to fight the increasing privatisation of water.

Shekhar’s Paani also has its roots in the water crisis, which in the last 15 years has escalated due to over-consumption and misuse.

“Do you know that every pair of jeans you buy uses 6,000 litres of water to be made?” he asks, adding that the water mafia, which sells this natural resource in the black market, is already operational in cities like Mumbai. “This will eventually lead to the city splitting into two worlds, which is what Paani is about,” he adds.

The director plans to shoot the film on lavish sets and live locations in Singapore. “Hrithik is the only actor I’ve discussed the project with. If he gives me his dates, I will do it with him in a jiffy, but he’s so busy. We need to have a long conversation soon,” says Shekhar, who is currently looking for and hoping to get Indian funding for the film, so he can take it to the Oscars.

“Slumdog Millionaire (2008) used India, but not its money, so the Oscar went to the British,” he reasons, sighing that in recent years we haven’t made films whose appeal go beyond that of the Indian diaspora.

Hence, no Indian film has found favour with the Academy since Lagaan (2001) was nominated in 2002.

Prod Shekhar on this year’s Oscar winners and he says, “The Artist (2011) was a great film, but the best movie of last year was A Separation (2011). The Iranian film bagged the Oscar in the Best Foreign Language category, but given that we had French, Iranian and Pakistani entries; in fact there were filmmakers and artistes from all over the world competing for the top honours, the Academy should just do away with this category and bring all foreign language films into the mainstream sections.”

No better superhero than Hrithik: Rakesh Roshan

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan says he roped in Hrithik Roshan as a superhero in the Krrish franchise because he feels no actor can essay it better than his son. Asked why he casts Hrithik as a superhero, senior Roshan said: "There's no other actor (other than Hrithik) in Bollywood who can become a superhero. If any other actor suited the role, we would have already seen a film before ours."

"Hrithik looks like a superhero, performs like a superhero," added the proud father, who gave a dreamlike launch to his son with blockbuster, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, in 2000.

What about Shah Rukh, who played the lead role in RA.One? "Shah Rukh is good," he responded to a query.

The senior Roshan also clarified that his comment comes in the capacity of a director and not as a father. "A father will always say his son is a superhero," he said.

Krrish 3 releases Nov 1.

Mickey Virus Movie Review

Critic's Rating: ***
Cast: Manish Paul, Elli Avram, Varun Badola, Manish Chaudhari, Pooja Gupta
Direction: Saurabh Varma
Genre: Comedy
Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

Story: The cops are cracking a cyber crime case and they hire hacker Mickey to crack the plot. It opens a lethal can of worms that no ordinary anti-virus can kill.

Review: We aren't internet keedas here, but let's try cracking into Mickey's (Manish) world of codes, crypts and consoles. This one isn't so deadly that we can't decode, or so simple that we just download and ESC (read: escape). So, risk it and hit ENTER!

The Delhi cops, headed by ACP Siddhanth (Chaudhari) and inspector Bhalla who can't tell a 'hawker' from a 'hacker' (Varun Badola) are investigating a case on cyber crime, where hackers are getting killed in broad daylight. They suspect a hound of hackers who are running this racket, and the only way to vandalize their plot is to find a hacker who can outsmart them and decrypt their devious designs.

There comes Mickey, the fairly unambitious, lazy Delhi boy, whose brain operates faster than any high-speed internet, and his zubaan needs a 'backspace' at all times. He is popular as 'Kung-Fu Chameli' in cyberspace, and strangely, he meets his woman of web dreams, Kamayani (Elli) in reality.

The cops hire Mickey, but as he unscrambles the case he gets 'spammed' by a well-programmed series of crimes, and he desperately needs to hit Ctrl+S (read: Save) before they take the 'Mickey' out of him.

Manish is apt for the role, he makes a good debut with confidence and promise. He flavour his lines with Dilliwala twang, though in scenes his repetitive expressions need to 'refresh'. From Mickey's hack-gang, Floppy (Rahgav Kakkar) is funny, and Chutney (Puja) is impressive. Elli looks like an animated creation out of a cyber-game. Performance - never mind! Varun Badola kills the other viruses in this game with his brilliant act.

Varma allows his characters to flourish in wit and humour. The plot is intelligent; there are laughs (sample: a tee printed - 'Jab Tak Hai Trojan'), some suspense and surprises too. Though direction is not error-free, it could've been more innovative and he often tips the balance between comedy and thriller.

This virus won't crash your system. Watch it!

Bigg Boss 7: What is the new major twist in the house?

If Sunny Deol would have been inside the Bigg Boss 7 house, he would have said “twistpe twist, twist pe twist, twist pe twist”. Yes, Bigg Boss 7 is full of twists and turns right from the very beginning. First twist was the concept of this season. This season, the change in the format of the high voltage reality show brought newer clashes among the housemates. The house was divided into two sections- jannat (heaven) and jahannum (hell). Each week, the housemates on the basis of their performance in the tasks were voted for an exchange between the two living spaces.Apparently all the housemates will be moved to the Jannat section of the glass walled ghar

Now a birdy from Lonavala has chirped to us that makers have planned yet another twist in the show. Yes, wait for it. We have heard that the Jahnaum section of the house will be closed down very soon and that all the inmates will be in the Jannat section. So the Bigg Boss house will be like the good ol’ Bigg Boss house very soon.

But don’t we all know that whenever the makers bring in a new twist, it leads to some sort of conflict within the housemates. The Jannat section of the house can accommodate only six to seven people. So if all the housemates will be moved into the Jannat section, one of the biggest concerns would be the lack of enough sleeping space. That’s not all. All the 12 participants will have to share two washrooms. Now obviously, this will create a lot of drama on this high voltage reality show. Smart move on the part of makers, no?

We wonder if there is a change in the concept because the viewers are bored with the new concept. Well, we don’t know that yet. All we can say is that Bigg Boss 7 will surely get interesting when all the housemates will be moved into the jannat section. Hai na?

Will ex-lovers Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan reunite?

Shahid Kapoor is all set to share screen space with his ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor (now Khan). At least, that is what the Phata Poster Nikhla Hero star said in a recent interview. The duo has certainly moved on from their past as a couple, even though they refused to come together for even a short while to promote their last film, the dud called Milenge Milenge. Now with Kareena having become Saif Ali Khan’s begum, we’re sure the past is gonna stay firmly in the past and professionalism will take over. Shahid elaborated on how he wouldn’t let personal equations come in the way of professional choices. “The decision for Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor to work together will never be mine. I have no issues or reservations in taking up a project that features Kareena. I have always maintained this. Whichever actor my director feels is best for the role he has in mind, should be roped in. Eventually, we all work on the same film. My so-called ‘reservations’ and personal comfort zones can’t define my work. That’s not being professional. I feel that even if an actor is cast for the lead role or for any other part in the film, it is his job to do the film and not create an issue.”Onscreen, we mean! According to Shahid, ‘I’ve never said I will not work with Kareena. Why not?’. Which makes us hope…

Bebo will be soon be seen onscreen with former alleged love interest Hrithik Roshan in Karan Johar’s Shuddhi. They got back together, no? Arre, for a film, we mean! So we certainly would love to see the Jab We Met jodi back on 70mm, personal history put aside. What about you, BollywoodLifers?

Will Drashti Dhami be Ajay Devgn’s co-star in Singham 2?

Drashti Dhami made it big on television with Geet – Hui Sabse Parayi, Dill Mill Gayyeand now Madhubala. She was cited as the 12th sexiest woman in the world in 2012 by a magazine and recently won Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6. Okay, so she can act, she is a looker and she has screen presence. We all know that already. But what some of you may not yet know is that super-successful director Rohit Shetty has his eye on the pretty lady. Nah, we don’t mean from the romantic point of view, but as a potential heroine for his next, reportedly the sequel –or will it be a prequel? – to his mega-hitSingham, which had Ajay Devgn playing the cop Bajirao Singham, while Kajal Aggarwal played his simpering love-interest.Rumour has it that Rohit Shetty is planning to cast the Madhubala heroine in his next action film…

We knew that Drashti was headed film-wards – after all, every TV actor seems to have one eye on the big screen and does not hesitate to say so – but like everyone else she has been waiting for that big chance, we hear. And this is a biggie, no? Rohit seemed to be majorly impressed by the gal when he was a guest on the last season of Jhalak, and her dancing skills could have clinched the deal for him, who knows! But we hear that he wants to cast Drashti for the role that Kareena Kapoor Khan refused…now that is rather too much, wethinks. Kahaan Kareena aur kahaan Drashti! On the other hand, since a heroine in a Rohit Shetty film that stars Ajay will have very little to do beyond looking good and cuddling up to the hero, DD could be a good choice. If it happens, of course!

Why is Katrina Kaif hiding from the media?

A few days ago Katrina Kaif was supposed to promote a Japanese branded messaging application in front of the media. The babe was offered big moolah to become the face of the product, we presume. In fact, the CEO of the Japanese company flew to India for promotions, we are told. But what happened left everyone reeling in shock. Ms Kaif bluntly refused to promote the brand in the presence of the media. Kat, we hear, preferred not to answer any personal questions – which she knew she would be asked, since it was soon after those pictures of her and Ranbir Kapoor on their beach holiday made the gossip papers – and hence decided to avoid any kind of interaction with the press. Isn’t that surprising, considering that it was after all an even to show the media a new product? And it is even more astonishing for her to behave this way, since we all know how professional Katrina has been over the years, hai na? Even when she was romantically involved with Salman Khan, the media hounded her with personal questions and though she always answered diplomatically, Kat never avoided the press. She faced the media with elan post her break-up with Sallu. So we wonder why she is playing out this boycotting the media drama now!Loverboy Ranbir Kapoor seems to have moved on from that time when holiday pictures of him and reported girlfriend Katrina hit the headlines. Kat, on the other hand, is having a hard time letting it go, wethinks. Why else would she avoid talking to the media?

Maybe Katrina isn’t coming out of the…err… closet ‘coz she doesn’t want to hurt certain people who are important to her (read: Salman). Or maybe the Dhoom 3 babe thinks that if she comes out in the open about her relationship with Ranbir, then her personal life would sabotage her career. Well, hiding from the media isn’t going help either, na? After all, Dhoom 3 is around the corner and there is no way she can refuse to promote her film, especially with Aamir Khan, the marketing king playing such a major role.

Wethinks Kat should take lessons from her ‘boyfriend’ RK Jr on how to face the media. ‘Coz the Kapoor lad has been doing just that and dealing with personal questions quite gracefully, even after those revealing photos surfaced. Katrina should learn his secrets asap!

Mallika Sherawat speaks out against honour killings

Actress Mallika Sherawat, who has been credited with an item number in the Kannada film Preeti Yeke Bhoomi Melide with Prem, is becoming quite the self-proclaimed women's rights activist.

Apparently appalled at the recent news of a young couple from Haryana murdered in what is seen as an honour killing, Mallika took to her micro-blogging page to voice her anger. This has to STOP! Honor Killing still persists in the 21st century? Here's why i think it's shameful!," she wrote, along with a video link to her view on the issue. Among other things, the actress said, "It is shameful that the families of a young man and woman killed them. They had not broken any law or insulted anyone. Their fault was that they fell in love. They just dreamt of living their lives together. They even got married. But were still murdered. This has to stop. This is the 21st century."

This apart, Mallika is currently busy with the show The Bachelorette. And while it is often speculated that she will make a comeback to south cinema, she was last seen in a special number with Simbu in the Tamil film Osthi.
