Selfie-taking statue to Baahubali Ganpati idol: Here's why Ganesh Chaturthi will be interesting

he lord of the new beginnings will soon arrive with much grandeur and fanfare and this time he will don every possible contemporary theme. As the country prepares to get into the mood to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, the streets are abuzz with the different types of idols that you might see this season.

From Mumbai's iconic Lalbaugcha Raja statue to the tallest-ever Ganesh statue being made in Vijayawada, the frenzy in the country over the festival is making sure that there are Ganesh idols and statues of all kinds. In the past, we have already seen World Cup Ganesha, Anna Hazare Ganesha and even the travel Ganesha. But when we say all kinds, we include those which you have never imagined before.

Here are some of the most unique Ganesh idols which will make this Ganesh Chaturthi innovative:

If there is one picture to explain the meaning of the word 'frenzy', it is this picture. You know that the country's obsession with selfies has gone a tad bit too far when you find people making idols of Lord Ganesh taking a selfie of him with his family members. Don't be surprised tomorrow if you suddenly come across a Ganesh statue in which the God is making a duck-face.

SS Rajamouli's blockbuster multi-lingual film Baahubali reportedly collected Rs 500 crore in the three weeks since its release on 10 July, according to sources in the film unit. However, that is just a number. Perhaps the real proof of the massive success of Baahubali actually is this picture, which shows a statue of Lord Ganesh as the Baahubali. Films have always been an important part of India. But nothing proves it as much as this image.

Baahubali Wins Its First Award

After conquering the worldwide box-offices with recordbreaking collections in almost all the centers, India's biggest motion picture, Baahubali, has now opened its account in winning awards. Baahubali has just won the award for Best Special Effects in the NDTV Gadgets Guru Awards which concluded in Hyderabad last night.

House of love: The best Bigg Boss couples we have ever seen

Gauhar Khan and Kushal Tondon were very open about their feelings during season 7 of Bigg Boss.

Bigg Boss has been a controversial show but it has also played cupid to many-a couples. Love is as much a part of the show as fights and mind games.

There has always been at least one couple that helps increase the heat in the house and also the TRPs of the controversial reality show.

And while we wait for more controversial love stories in the next season, here are 10 couples that met on the show and let love fly. While they might not have continued their relationship long after the show, they certainly did entertain us.

Anupama Verma and Aryan Vaid

The very first couple to have started the trend of romance in the Bigg Boss house was Anupama and Aryan in season 1. They were never shy about their relationship; they accepted their feelings on national television and made the show really popular.

Payal Rohatgi and Rahul Mahajan

Rahul Mahajan grew close to model-cum-actress Payal Rohatgi in season 2, so close that they ended up getting intimate and playful in the pool during a task. However, Rahul Mahajan somehow proposed Monica Bedi in the show who said no.

Veena Mallik and Ashmit Patel

Who can forget the chemistry between season 4 contestants Veena Mallik and Ashmit Patel. This couple got all touchy-feely during the show, so much that the show host Salman Khan had to remind them that it is a family show. Well, they are not together anymore and Veena is now married to an Arab businessman.

Sara Khan and Ali Merchant

This couple literally got married on the show. Ali Merchant came into the house so that they could get married, sounds romantic, but the marriage did not even last for two months. Later, Ali Merchant also said the whole wedding thing was a publicity stunt and both were paid Rs 50 lakh to do it.

Pooja Bedi and Akashdeep Saigal

They shared a special bond in the house during season 5. They were inseparable during the show. After the show, Akash aka Sky got a tattoo of his lady love Pooja which he said is a symbol of his true feelings for her.

Karishma Kotak and Vishal Karwal

Vishal in season 6 used to hit on Sana Khan initially but gradually moved on to Karishma Kotak and they started bonding. Apparently they continued dating after the show and were even contemplating marriage but rumor has it that they split last year.

Gauhar Khan and Kushal Tondon

Gauhar Khan and Kushal Tondon were very open about their feelings during season 7. There was even a controversial 'going to the bathroom together' episode. Kushal even proposed to Gauhar saying he wants to grow old with her. They fought, they loved, and she won. Then later, they officially announced their break up few months after the show.

Tanisha Mukherji and Armaan Kohli

There was so much drama about their relationship in season 7. Well, it definitely added spice to the show. They were even seen kissing. Rumors were that Tanisha's sister Kajol and mother Tanuja were not happy with their relationship. Armaan and Tanisha ended things after the show and Tanisha said Armaan was very different from her and their ideologies were different. Well, honestly, that was pretty clear on the show too.

Upen Patel and Karishma Tanna

Upen and Karishma were each other's anti initially in season 8 but things changed later and they got intimate on the show. After Bigg Boss, they were seen on another dance reality show as a couple and even got engaged on that show. They apparently are still together.

Diandra Soares and Gautam Gulati

Well, who would forget the controversial kiss of Diandra Soares and Gautam Gulati in season 9. Diandra even dragged Gautam to the bathroom to give him a 'special gift'. Diandra was later taken out of the show due to health reasons. Rumors were that Diandra got pregnant during the show. Gautam Gulati won the show and said he regrets going to the bathroom with Diandra and he kissed her because it would be rude and embarrassing for the girl if he wouldn't. Strange reason Gautam!

Hold your breath: Kangana Ranaut just confirmed she is 'katti' with Deepika Padukone

That title may be a bit childish, but they're the exact words used by Kangana Ranaut in relation to her upcoming film Katti Batti and her rumoured rival Deepika Padukone.

We've been reading stories about their rift since early this year. It all started with an awards ceremony and Deepika's acknowledgment that the Best Actress award (which was awarded to her) should have been given to Kangana.

Some called it a PR stunt, some called it a way for Deepika to reach out to Kangana, but it has opened up a Pandora's box of miscommunication. What followed were a series of rumours, cryptic messages from both stars and a buzzing rumour mill.

In a recent interview with critic Rajeev Masand, Kangana Ranaut, along with co-star Imran Khan and director Nikhil Advani (of Katti Batti), the Queen actress was at her unfiltered best.

While playing a little game of holding up a card of eitherKatti or Batti for people from the industry, she held up the Katti card for Deepika Padukone. Without blinking an eyelid.

We can't say that we are surprised. However, Kangana's nonchalance towards the issue was the surprise element.

"I just want to be left alone," she said, upon being asked about why she held up the Katti card.

During the interview, she mentioned several times, that "some people" need to mind their own business and stop meddling in her life.

Of course, she was praised for always been honest, but thanks Kangana, for showing us exactly how it would be like to be in your bad books.

What makes India an attractive destination for foreign bands

Coldplay performing in India.

Recently, the popular British rock group Coldplay comprising of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion were in Mumbai to shoot a music video for their upcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams. In photos of the shoot that went viral, the band was seen playing with colours (presumably a Holi sequence) on the streets of Mumbai (in Worli) with children around them. India is indeed an attractive land, with a slew of international acts being shot here.

Here's how Ayushmann Khurrana will celebrate his birthday this year!

Ayushmann brings in his birthday in Kasauli
As you grow older and specially when you have your own children the fascination with the typical birthday celebrations begins to wane. You look at simple basic pleasures on your birthday, like being with your family,” confesses Ayushmann Khurrana for whom 2015 has been a special year, with his film Dum Lagake Haisha turning out to be the sleeper hit of the year.

So the simple pleasures this birthday? “I am in my home-town Chandigarh with my family. We’re all going to Kasauli which is an hour’s drive from our home. In fact you can see the foothills of the Himalayas from our home,” gushes the actor who celebrates his brithday today. The entire family includes Ayushmann’s parents and his in-laws. During the past year the one major change in Ayushmann’s life has been that his wife and two children have joined him in Mumbai.

Earlier they stayed in Chandigarh. “Yes, we are all together now, and that’s my best birthday gift. It’s basically to ensure the best possible schooling for my kids. Otherwise Chandigarh was just fine,” says Ayushmann. Ayushmann has vivid memories of his birthday celebratuibs in his childhood. “I remember as a child, I’d get either a video game or a bicycle every birthday. I remember going to the store with my parents and they got me this really cool yellow bicycle. I wanted it in black or blue. But they said I’d have to wait for a couple of days. So, I just came home with the yellow bicycle.”

The actor is currently in the process of finalising a song for release. “My musical partner Rochak and I have zeroed in on two-three compositions. We’ll be releasing one of them.”

Imran Khan is boring and predictable, says Kangana Ranaut

http://www.hindustantimes.com//images/2015/6/8e74fc6b-0e2d-45b2-baaa-b817c6407bb6wallpaper1.jpg
Kangana, Imran in a still from Katti Batti
One is a “goody two shoes” and the other is a firebrand, who believes in speaking her mind. But when Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut visited the HT Café office to talk about their upcoming film, Katti Batti, they seemed pretty much in sync. Accompanied by the movie’s director Nikhil Advani and co-producer Amrita Pandey, VP and Head, Marketing and Distribution, Studios, Disney India, the lead pair spoke about their chemistry, and all things Bollywood, not without a few friendly jibes targeted at each other. Here are some excerpts from the chat.
Kangana, you are probably the most politically incorrect person in the industry, and Imran, you are the exact opposite. How did the two of you get along?
Kangana:
It didn’t work out (laughs). The thing is, he is boring, predictable, and is a goody two shoes to the extent that, sometimes, I feel like he has another personality, that of a criminal or a psychopath, because otherwise it’s too good to be true. This whole thing of being prim and proper is unbelievable. When I met Avantika (Malik; Imran’s wife), she told me that she doesn’t know why people think she will be insecure, because the minute he tries to tell a joke, the girl will run away. I felt if Avantika, who knows him well, says so, it must be true (laughs). Imran, I’m sorry, but I really don’t know what to say.
Are you two nervous as the release date of the film approaches, because of the expectations attached to it?
Kangana:
I think there are many aspects to it. When the script was narrated to me, it wasn’t what the film is today. What we have made is far better, and that happens rarely. But when you think of other aspects, such as the people in the industry, and how they love to run people down… it’s like how during every exam you have a little bit of anxiety. Though you’re the one who has given the exam, you know what you should expect, even then it’s quite nerve-wracking. And now, I know what Imran’s answer will be. He’s like Saint Kabir, I don’t care types.
Imran: Really for me, this time it doesn’t matter. I’ve seen the film, and I know what we have. The truth is, often when I promote my films, I’ve not seen them. [This time] I’m hoping that it will work out. Many directors don’t even show you the film. There have been times when I’ve watched the film a day before the release, and I go like, “S**t!” That time I think if only I had known, I would’ve stopped the promotion nonsense, and gone on vacation for three weeks. This time, I’ve seen the film, and haven’t booked my vacation until a week after the film’s release. I’m going to hang around.

Amrita, as a co-producer, why did you decide to back this story?
Amrita: It is such a layered film. People will wonder if it’s a drama, romance or a thriller. Nikhil has directed it brilliantly, and Imran and Kangana have done a fantastic job.
Kangana, how does it feel to have a movie riding on your shoulders?
Kangana: When the film is good, it does not matter how great the expectations are. After Queen (2014), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (TWMR) was filmi. I felt people might be taken aback by the masala, gimmicky film. But they loved it. When you watch Katti Batti (KB), you’ll realise that it’s so nice. KB is a love story, which begins where most romantic films end — the boy meets the girl, they fall in love, and live happily ever after. In KB, we begin where their seven-year relationship has ended, and we see if their love is strong enough to bring them back together.
Imran, you took a two-year break to be with your family when you became a father. What made you sign KB to make your comeback with?
Imran:
I had actually signed KB at the end of 2013, when we learnt that Avantika (wife) was pregnant. She was due in June 2014, and Nikhil wanted to start shooting. I couldn’t have missed out on those initial months when the baby would be home or ditch Avantika during the last two months of the pregnancy. So, I asked Nikhil if he could postpone the shooting. Rather than taking a break and thinking of what film to do next, it was more like, I’m doing this film, but I’ll do it after the break.

Buzz is that KB and 500 Days Of Summer (2009) are similar. Have you heard of this?
Imran:
This question keeps coming up. When I was asked this question the first time, I was taken aback. The only similarity is that the male protagonist has a break-up. There have been a couple of interviews, where allegations have been put on us, saying, ‘How can you deny it? There are clear parallels.’ And I’m like, ‘Dude! You have not even seen my film.
How was the experience of shooting for a stop-motion video for the song ‘Lip to lip’?
Kangana:
You know, actors are so used to emoting and expressing, that the minute you see yourself being used as a prop, it’s very unsettling. Even your arm is moved by the team. Honestly, I didn’t like the experience.
Imran: I think it’s a very cool technique. I was psyched about doing stop-motion photography and animation. But it is very tedious and boring to shoot for. It takes 40 minutes to move your hand inch by inch. By the end of it, I thought that it looks great and cool, but I’m never doing it again (laughs).

Watch: Katti Batti trailer

How close are you two to your characters in the movie?
Kangana:
Not much of Payal has been revealed in the promos, but she’s relatable. She has a façade of being a cool girl, who doesn’t care about relationships. She doesn’t want to show her vulnerability to the world. She is a complex character rarely seen in films. She will keep everyone guessing.
Nikhil: Ever since we were kids, we were told never judge a book by its cover. For Kangana, I’d say that what you see is not what you always get. I feel Imran was born to play this role. I have got to know him well in the last one year, and I feel he’s so much like the character in real life as well.
Imran: It was very easy for me to hook into Maddy’s character. This guy is entirely driven by love, and he believes the reason for his existence is his love for Payal. I’d like to believe that I have the same quality in me.
With Kangana coming on board, given the great run she is having at the box office, were you apprehensive Imran?
Imran: I had signed the film without a co-star. When Kangana came on board, the success of TWMR hadn’t happened. Over the years, she has delivered consistent performances, and it’ll add to the film, so I was excited.
Are you concerned about the money a movie makes?
Kangana:
When you make a film like Queen, you don’t, but with a TWMR, you know it’s made for a larger audience. KB is targeted at the urban youth. I want to be a mass actor, and I want my films to be watched in the remotest of places. But no one can predict how much a film makes.

Hero review - Salman Khan turns producer for punchbag of an action love-in

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan star puts his young protege Sooraj Pancholi into the lead role of a tough-guy kidnap film, but the result is a plotless mess

Hero Sooraj Pancholi film still. Photograph: PR

Curious times for morality and moviestars in Bollywood. Summer megahit Bajrangi Bhaijaan saw barrelling tough guy Salman Khan repositioning himself, after multiple court appearances, as India’s sweetheart – a development as unexpected as, say, Woody Allen now winning a People’s Choice award. Hero, an update of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 melodrama, sees Khan playing producer-starmaker, and attempting to hustle his buff protégé – the scarcely less controversial Sooraj Pancholi – onto the Young Bollywood A-list. Where BB strove to portray Khan as a protector, Hero intends to demonstrate that rough-diamond Sooraj is still the kind of boy even police chiefs might trust with their daughters. The title is what it wants to transform its leading man into; the rebranding, in this case, never takes.

Why Kamal Hassan wants shut down the film industry for three days in November!

New Delhi: In his new role, noted actor-director Kamal Hassan is playing an activist, who will bring work to a halt in the Indian film industry for three days. The only difference is that he will be playing this role in real life, not reel life.

But, one need not panic! All is well and for the better.

Barring a one-day strike or voluntary shutdown of film industry to support a cause in the past, this will be the first of its kind shutdown, when the entire industry will stop work for three-days. And that too, voluntarily!

Hassan in the interaction with Firstpost. Naresh Sharma/ Firstpost

In November, the ‘Nayakan’ will bring about a virtual ‘shutdown’ of the film industry for three days, when about 10,000 workforce in the film industry will attend a three-day workshop to enhance their technical skills and earn certification.

Here are all the probable contestants for Bigg Boss 9

Salman Khan performs at the Bigg Boss 8 Weekend Ka Waar.

It's that time of the year again! Controversial and hit reality TV show Bigg Boss will soon return with its 9th season and is expected to air from mid-September with a changed format.

It's not just the format of the show that will be different. Report is that Salman Khan will be returning as the host of the show. Rumours were flying earlier that Farah Khan will be hosting the show again after having hosted the eighth season.

As far as the contestants of the show are concerned, the confirmed list is not out yet, but the tentative list looks like this:

Radhe Maa
Rumors are that the 'pure and pious' Radhe Maa has been approached for the show. Well, after all the controversy about her 'godly businesses' and her clothes, it would be fun to see how she will bless the Bigg Boss house with her presence. "Radhe Maa has been approached by the production house as people are interested in knowing more about her. But she is yet to give her confirmation," says a source close to the production house.

Rahul Yadav
After getting fired from the house of Housing.com, seeing Rahul Yadav in Bigg Boss' house will be interesting, he will have to be on his best behavior if he doesn't want to be kicked out of this house as well. Confirming that the makers of the show approached him, Yadav posted on Facebook: "And the Big Boss talks are getting serious. WTF! Any advice? [I really don’t know what this Big Boss really is. Not watched TV from 13 yrs] (sic)."

VJ Bani
The season 4 of Roadies was a controversial one, all thanks to Gurbani, well known as VJ Bani. Her free spirit and love for tattoos got her a lot of followers. Let's see what new aspect of Bani's personality will be exposed in the show.

Shweta Prasad
Remember the Makdee girl? Well, she has been in news recently for different reasons, but we all loved Shweta Prasad in Iqbal and Makdee. After her sex scandal, Bollywood embraced her and it will be interesting to see if Bigg Boss embraces her too. However, Shweta denied it, saying, "No, I am not participating in Bigg Boss, please avoid pseudo news about it. Zero verification! (sic)," she posted on Facebook on Monday night.

Sana Saeed
The little Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai came back in our lives with her role in Student of the Year, then Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and then with her partner in another reality show, she is one person who is perfect to be in a show like Bigg Boss, hoping for some drama there. However, Sana was approached for the show but she said that she will not be taking it up right now.

Asha Negi
She won a dance reality show with her partner, Rithwik Dhanjani, and has been popular for her role in Pavitra Rishta, and looking at past records, TV stars dominate this show. Her popularity might just help her win this show too, but of course there is tough competition.

Rashami Desai
She has been in news for her troubled marriage. On a dance reality show with her partner, Rashami came out with a lot of details about her marriage. Famous for her role in Uttaran, Desai will be an interesting contestant on the show and will hopefully give a tough competition to Asha Negi.

Shivin Narang
This Veerji from TV serial Veera is very popular among the girls; his 'chocolate boy' image can win the hearts of the contestants and the audience. However, Shivin has decided not to be a part of the show as he is quite preoccupied with another project. "Bigg Boss is a good spicy show, but I have no intention of participating in it right now, as I am already busy with another show," he tells us.
